ATLANTA – The Student Health Law Association (SHLA) hosted its annual Mentor-Mentee Mixer on the rooftop patio of Shout in Midtown on October 13th. The event kicked off this year’s SHLA Mentor-Mentee program, which has paired 17 SHLA members with practicing attorneys in the Atlanta metro area. This year’s mentors are primarily all Georgia State Law alumni who are working in the health law field, as well as in broader fields including criminal prosecution, family law, and intellectual property law.

“It has been a goal of mine since I started at GSU Law to start a mentor program for students interested in health law,” explained Program Coordinator Katrina Carmichael. ”It is extremely rewarding to see this program finally get off the ground and to be able to provide students with the opportunity to receive guidance from an expert in the field. I have high hopes for the continued success of the program in the future.”

The Shout event was an opportunity for students to meet their mentors and to get to know other professionals in the health law field. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while discussing their various interests and areas of expertise.  It was a fun-filled evening for all in attendance.

“I’ve really enjoyed this chance to meet with attorneys who are out in the field right now, and learn about what they do,” said Sarah Ketchie, SHLA’s President. “They can give advice on what’s really going on in the market, and suggestions about how to be more successful when we graduate.”
